What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve. The optic nerve is important because it carries vision from the eye to the brain. If glaucoma is not controlled, the damage it causes to the optic nerve can lead to blindness.

Can Glaucoma Be Controlled?

Although there is currently no cure for glaucoma, it can be treated. Glaucoma can usually be controlled with eye drop medicines which lower eye pressure and must be used on a daily basis. However, if medicines are ineffective or lead to unwanted side effects, The doctors at Ophthalmology Consultants can perform a simple, in-office laser treatment called Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) to lower your eye pressure and protect your sight.

The Doctors at Ophthalmology Consultants will perform a comprehensive ophthalmic examination including automated visual field screening, digital optic nerve photography, and retinal nerve fiber layer laser imaging in order evaluate for and treat glaucoma.
